Mental Health Awareness Week 2020

Mental Health Awareness Week

For the final week of Term 3, the SEC have composed a series of activities to acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Week.  This nationally takes place during our holiday times; however, we deem it important enough to delegate our own period.

The week will begin with guest speakers coming to Deloraine to speak to our students, thanks to our nurse Mia’s organisation.  From here, the rest of the week will include fun activities such as a PJ day, 10-minute school meditation, teacher verses student basketball game and the final Friday of Term 3, filled with workshops and activities.  We are hoping to gather enough interest to hold a talent quest at lunchtime, hosted by our favourites Johnny and Kaiden to provide an opportunity for people to overcome their fears of public performance.

A full school obstacle course will be assembled with a colourful emphasis, for groups of students to challenge themselves physically and mentally.  To fuel students for this active day there will be a free BBQ.

There will be a collection of workshops in Block 2, including the following:

  • art session
  • mountain bike riding
  • skate boarding
  • circus training
  • Tasdance workshop and
  • African drumming

Each event will connect to mental health in overcoming fears, trying new things, interacting with others or engaging in positive brain stimulating activity.  We are aiming to raise awareness and encourage as much participation as possible during Deloraine High School’s Mental Health Awareness Week.
